The Inspiration

Tales of the paw wouldn’t have been founded if it weren’t for the inspiration of these beautiful souls.

Wilson

At only 6 weeks and 8 lbs, Wilson was rescued by Angel City Pit Bills, from the non public portion of a local shelter as a code orange. Wilson was alone, underweight, and had a broken nose infected with a large abscess, making it incredibly difficult to breathe. Two days after his initial surgery to drain the abscess he went to his new foster home with us. After many long nights of comforting Wilson as he struggled to breathe, he had won his way into our hearts and his forever home.

Unfortunately, after adoption, his breathing became increasingly restricted as he grew. After multiple vet and specialist visits, with unsure options, we were lucky to be introduced to Dr. Tony Cambridge at VSS Tustin. Dr. Cambridge, became dedicated to creating a plan to getting Wilson to the life he so deserves. Wilson’s CT Scan showed only 25% of one nostril was open and the other completely sealed by tissue and bone. Wilson had begun to develop gastrointestinal issues and his respiratory system was rapidly aging due to his labored breathing. Wilson went in for his first major surgery in December 2019. Bone and tissue were removed from Wilson’s nasal cavity, creating one large nostril, just behind his nose. Even going through this tough surgery Wilson was wagging his tail and winning the hearts of the VSS Staff as he came out of surgery.

After around 6 weeks following the surgery Wilsons tissue began to regrow. In April of 2020 the regrown tissue was removed and this time, stents & buttons were added to limit regrowth. Wilson being such a good boy was tolerant of the stents and daily cleanings for 10 whole weeks.

Since Wilson’s buttons and stents have been removed he has completely healed with minimal tissue regrowth. Wilson is now living his life to the fullest. He is able to breathe easy, sleep peacefully and discover all sorts of new smells. Wilson is such a lover and insists on paying it forward. He has since opened his house and heart to multiple foster dogs, cats and kittens.

Baxie was rescued at 9 months old from a previous owner which neglected him. He was found severely underweight with a fever and patches of fur missing on his body. After immediate medical care and lots of love Baxie became stronger, confident and healthy beginning the journey of his best life. Now 13 years old Baxie is still going strong and is the center of our family.

Zola

Zola was found abandoned, scared and completely malnourished running the streets of South LA. Found in the non public portion of the local shelter as a code blue, Zola was rescued by Angel City Pit Bulls, weighing only 18 pounds. Soon after she suffered a luxating patella, which after surgery has recovered. We fostered her, providing physical therapy, love and a safe place to relax. Zola quickly won us over and found her forever home with us. Now she is 51 pounds and so grateful that she opens her home to other animals in need. She has fostered multiple dogs, cats, puppies and kittens including her best friend and brother Wilson.
